An Evening of Poetry, Art and Storytelling

When: 7:00 - 9:00 PM
Where: Patagonia Seattle, 2100 1st Ave, Seattle, WA 98121-2103
What: Please join Patagonia Seattle, Empty Bowl Press, Wandering Aengus Press and Save Our wild Salmon Coalition for an evening of art, poetry, and story celebrating salmon and orca on June 22nd at the Patagonia Seattle store from 7 - 9pm

The event will feature the newly released anthology I Sing The Salmon Home: Poems from Washington State, edited by Washington State Poet Laureate Rena Priest, and published by Empty Bowl Press, and For the Love of Orcas published by Wandering Aengus Press. Creative contributors from both anthologies with recite poetry along with additional stories and poems.

Honor: People, Salmon & Orca

What: You’re invited to Northwest Artists Against Extinction and Patagonia Seattle’s Honor: People, Salmon, & Orca exhibit!

First shown at the University of Puget Sound, artwork from this exhibit is now being displayed at Patagonia Seattle through June - and in honor of Orca Action Month, is expanding to honor the Southern Residents as well.

In honor of Orca Action Month in June and the complex ecosystems on which our salmon-eating Southern Resident orcas depend, Patagonia Seattle has partnered with Northwest Artists Against Extinction (NWAAE) and Save Our wild Salmon Coalition to bring a number of artworks from the recent Honor: People and Salmon exhibit at University of Puget Sound to the walls of the Patagonia, Seattle, retail store through May and June.

Honor: People and Salmon Poetry Reading and Closing Reception

When: 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Where: Kittredge Gallery, University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, WA
I Sing The Salmon Home Poems from Washington State What: As a grand finale for the Honor: People & Salmon exhibit, Save Our wild Salmon Coalition, NWAAE and University of Puget Sound’s Kittredge Gallery will host a closing reception with many of the participating artists in attendance! The closing reception is free and open to the public. The reception will host a poetry reading from the newly released anthology I Sing The Salmon Home: Poems from Washington State, edited by Washington State Poet Laureate Rena Priest, and published by Empty Bowl Press with a grant from the Academy of American Poets.

Holly J. Hughes, co-publisher of Empty Bowl Press, will be joined by contributing poets Arianne True, the newest Washington State Poet Laureate, Kathryn True, Ann Spiers, Linera Lucas, and Sasha LaPointe, who will share their poems from the newly released anthology.

NWAAE Panel Discussion at the University of Puget Sound to Honor: People and Salmon

When: 5:00 - 7:00  PM
Where: Kittredge Gallery, University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, WA
What: Northwest Artists Against Extinction hosted a panel discussion about honoring people and salmon. Panelists discussed distinct, complementary, and interconnected ways of understanding and advocating for salmon as well as how this keystone species affects and inspires people and communities.

Honor: People and Salmon Exhibit

Where: Kittredge Gallery, University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, WA
What: Honor: People and Salmon, an exhibit of works by artist-advocates who create art to evoke support for restoring salmon and orcas, their lands and waters, and the many communities that honor and cherish these emblematic species. Salmon are intrinsic to the cultures and economies of many Northwest Tribes and an essential food source for endangered Southern Resident orcas.

The Spokane Falls Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host Chris as he leads a dialogue about dams on the Snake River, the economic and cultural opportunities for Eastern Washington, and what the path forward looks like to save endangered Snake River salmon and steelhead.

Educate yourself at informational tables sponsored by numerous groups. And hear free music from Peninsula favorites Kim Trenerry and Jason Mogi.

Following the City Pier event, join the beach cleanup sponsored by the Surfrider Foundation.

Tales from the River at Storyfort

Idaho Sierra Club and Idaho Conservation League invite you to join the region's river community in celebrating the wild river systems, fish, and wilderness. We have teamed up with Storyfort to bring you a three-story series that focuses on various aspects of Idaho’s river culture. Whether it be heartfelt tales spun from the fabric of river culture or embarrassing and silly river happenings – verbal, artistic, and photographic storytelling will transport you into the unique and interconnected world of rivers, salmon, and people. After the story series, join us at Lost Grove Brewery to learn how you can help protect this cultural lifeblood of Idaho, enjoy live music, and share your own river stories!
